The Industrial Area at Umiam, in the Ri Bhoi District, was established in march, 1976, which is about 15 Kms from Shillong, the State Capital. It is well connected by all weather roads. The nearest rail – head at Guwahati is about 85 Kms from it and there is a proposal for the rail head to come upto Byrnihat in the near future.           

The nearest International Airport at Guwahati is about 110 Kms and the Airport at Umroi adjacent to this Industrial Area is only 5 Kms.
